DPAB has successfully commemorated the International Day of Persons with disabilities 2018.

Every 3rd of December is observed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) around the world. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

Each year the day focuses on a different issue with the different theme. The theme for this year’s International Day was: “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”. This year, DPAB in collaboration with Gelephu Lower Secondary School has successfully observed the day. The event was graced by Dasho Dzongda of Sarpang Dzongkhag. Besides, Dasho Thrompon, Lam Neyten, Dzongkhag officials, businessmen, teachers, parents and students joined persons with disabilities to celebrate the day.

This International Day brought together the national and local policy makers, civil society organizations, academic institutes to discuss the way forward for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development of Gelephu town. Moreover, challenges faced by the people with disabilities in the society was also discussed.

During the event, skills and talents of individual people with disabilities were showcased through art exhibition and cultural programs. Therefore, we the Association would like to thank the Gelephu Lower Secondary School for making this event a very successful one.
