Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has become a central aspect of modern life. Engagement with some educational, employment and social opportunities is dependent upon being able to make use of computers and the internet. For persons with disabilities, these opportunities can be particularly important.
ICT has been identified as an important aspect of the wider strategy for the social inclusion of persons with disabilities. ICT is heralded as enabling PWDs to participate fully in the social and economic life of their communities. It is a significant force in terms of choice and opportunity for persons with disabilities. ICT offers the old and the young an opportunity to overcome social barriers to interaction and communication that can be caused by the lack of provision for impairments or life-long limiting illness. It has also been identified as playing a significant role in offering severely PWDs an increased degree of independence in everyday life
DPO provides opportunities to persons with disabilities in Bhutan to avail some training in basic ICT and help them get employment in future.
